Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community CenterWe appreciate your patience during Mission's facility closures. We are anxious to open services again in a way that not only protects the health and safety of you and our staff, but will deliver the quality experience you have come to expect from the City of Mission.
The Community Center will partially reopen Monday, June 8 at 5:30 a.m. Read the detailed reopening plan for outdoor parks facililties and the Community Center here. The public's responses to the reopening survey are available here. There will be changes in our procedures to safeguard patron and staff wellness. Some of those changes include:

  • Key tag/barcode readers will replace finger vein readers for entry.
  • South Entrance is the exclusive access to the Community Center
  • North Entrance is temporarily closed
  • Screening questions asked of all guests upon arrival and the requirement to sign a waiver
  • Masks required while moving about the facility (may be removed while exercising)
  • 6 ft or more social distancing is mandatory and enforced by staff
  • Signage showing the flow of traffic throughout the facility, area closures, and reminders
  • Required sanitizing of equipment after use; recommend sanitizing before use
  • Staff on-hand to assist and ensure equipment is clean for the next patron
  • Exclusive access to vulnerable population 6:30-8:30 a.m. daily
  • Facility closed from 1:00-3:00 p.m. (Mon.-Fri.) & 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (Sat.) for deep cleaning & disinfecting
  • Facility closed Sundays
  • Hand sanitizer located throughout the facility for convenience and safety

  • Patrons bring only essential items; water fountains are closed, but bottle filler available

  • Strict 30 minute limits on cardio and selectorized equipment

  • Temporary area closures include: 

    • Lounge
    • Track / Stretching & Toning Area / Free Weights
    • Pool / Steam Room/ Hot Tub/ Sauna / Locker Room
    • Child WatchBasketball / Pickleball / Racquetball
  • Personal training available by reservation and one-on-one

  • Modified fitness classes available with limited occupancy

  • Reserved cardio equipment times (913-722-8200)
